Day 51: L'heure D'or

The sun is setting earlier and earlier these days.  For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been able to catch the sunset during my commute home.  Soon I’ll be able to watch it from my office and I’ll be driving home in the dark.  I’m not looking forward to that.  I was passing by Lake Massapoag in Sharon this evening just at the right moment to catch the golden sunset.  I was compelled to stop and capture the scenery.

I tried many different exposures but this one turned out to be my favorite.  By letting the foreground go completely dark into a silhouette, I was able to bring out the details in the sky while preventing the sun to be totally blown out.  I especially like the way the branches from the overhanging tree and the railing on the bottom frames the entire scene.  As an added bonus, a lone fisherman on a boat came into the scene.  I noticed the boat while I was shooting but didn’t pay too much attention to it.  During post process, I narrowed my selection down to this photo and another similar photo but without the boat.  I think the boat definitely adds an interest point to an otherwise lifeless scenery.
