After viewing my Project 365 blog, John, a good friend and a colleague was inspired to start his own blog. John is a modern day renaissance man with many different talents, not the least of which is his skill as an artist. John’s first posting shows a water color rendition of a rural landscape. In his posting, he includes a link to the location of where he was standing when he sketched the scenery. Today, I drove out to the location and tried to capture the exact perspective in John’s sketch. I think I came pretty close.
In Hindsight…
My photo does not capture the Wier river as in John’s sketch. I think he was standing much closer to West’s Corner than I was. I sort of suspected that but than I couldn’t figure out where he would have parked his car. The water adds a nice interest in John’s sketch, but because it’s missing in my photo, the salt marsh becomes a bit boring. Also, I don’t like the leading line created by the guard rail on the right. Since it curves to the right, it draws the eye out of the frame and away from the main focus point. The overall composition may have been better without the guard rail in the scenery. This applies to the photo and the sketch (sorry, John).
